The work goes on

We are proud to announce that the importance of the research coming from HIGHCARE group has gained further international recognition: recently, the clinical recommendations for high altitude exposure of individuals with pre-existing cardiovascular conditions were published in the European Heart Journal, the leading journal in the field of cardiology in Europe. The authors’ list includes several HIGHCARE investigators and the writing committee, representing several international scientific societies, was coordinated by Prof. Gianfranco Parati. Needless to say, much of the content of this document is based on the results of our research.

Good news also comes from the collaboration of our team with the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia of Lima (Peru). A recent work published by this important high altitude research group with our contribution, indicates that in people permanently living at high altitude in the Andes the presence of inappropriately high number of red blood cells (excessive erythrocytosis) is associated with worse cardiovascular risk profile.

HIGHCARE was also present at several events organized in Italy in 2018. Recently, the history of the project was presented by Prof. Gianfranco Parati during the meeting Medicina e montagna. Il cuore in alta quota organized by the University of Milano-Bicocca.

Finally, HIGHCARE team was also represented by Dr. Grzegorz Bilo during the inauguration of the “2018 Valle Intrasca Mountain Marathon” in Verbania, where a session dedicated to health in the mountains was organized in collaboration with Istituto Auxologico Italiano.
